Music in the Park is a well conceived event under the banner of SPIC MACAY. The concert started with the lighting of the lamp by Dr. M.S. Gill, Parimal Rai and Shayad Sawafi. The evening began with a melodious raga by Pt. Vishwamohan Bhat accompanied on tabla by Pt. Ramkumar Mishra. He concluded the performance with his Grammy award winning composition 'Meeting by the river...' the theme of the composition was to spread love, affection and harmony all over the world. After Pt. Vishwamohan Bhatt's scintillating music the evening's second half brought the aroma of classical vocal with Ustad Rashid Khan who captured the mind of the audience with his music accompanied on tabla by Vijay Ghate, Harmonium by Mehmood Dholpuri, Tanpura by Shruti and Garima. Mr. Suneet Tondon was the compere for the evening. Ustad Rashid Khan is extremely adept in producing all techniques and characteristic features of the Rampur Sahaswan style. He has developed exceptional expertise in the slow elaboration of vilambit khayals and the use of sargams and sargam taankari. His taankari is as powerful and varigeated as any of his predecessors. The brilliant Enayat Hussain drut and medium pace khayals ring as true in his voice as they have done down the ages. During the concert enjoying the evening of music, present were Deepak Pental, Amit Judge, Vasant Sathe and Rashmi Malik. These kind of concerts enable Delhiites to enjoy the best of Indian classical music in the natural lush green environs of Nehru Park, Chanakyapuri. This is a platform which has consistently attracted large number of music lovers.
